Most jewellery is produced from precious metals – silver, gold, platinum and palladium – but may be produced in other materials such as pewter or steel. These metal objects can then be connected – to make a chain, for example – or be set with stones, enamelled or polished. In the very highest grade of jewellery, multiple techniques may be used simultaneously.
It’s a lot to handle, especially if you do everything manually.
Prodio MES software provides an ideal system to bring together your materials (like precious metals or specific stones), multiple bills of materials (for each of your jewellery pieces), and customer orders, so you have complete and consistent asset tracking.

Jewellery and accessories manufacturers turn to Prodio to get total visibility over their production process, from material requirements to capacity planning.
To create beautiful jewellery pieces, a range of techniques are used, from the ultra-traditional cutting of metal using a saw, through soldering, to lost-wax casting and, in more recent years, 3D technologies such as laser-sintering and digital technologies such as laser-cutting. Having that in mind, imagine a clear list with all orders included. There is also a list of operations your product has to go through to be made, and you know precisely the correct sequins. Progress and the statuses of all orders are shown in real-time, so you can see who is currently working and where in the manufacturing process you are. On top of that, you can see raw materials, graphics and drawings consumption.
Your list is constantly updated, and you can see it each time an employee enters new data from your manager’s profile. It sounds like finally a dream come true 🙂
FIND OUT MOREWith jewellery being such a personal and symbolic purchase, the experience should be as thorough and multidimensional as possible for your customer. This is a guarantee that they will come back to you in the future.
Being able to deliver high-quality goods and services means that you should eliminate spreadsheets and paper notebooks. Illegible paper scribbles, or outdated files, could cost you a lot of time and money. It is easy to make a mistake, and when you work with precious stones and expensive metals, fixing it could come with a hefty price tag. You can’t afford errors if you want to stay in this competitive market and maintain efficient manufacturing processes.
Inventory tracking helps you to have total visibility and control over your workshop. Tracking deficiencies and always updating stock levels helps you with quality control and ensure that there are fewer unhappy customers and complaints.

If you regularly make-to-stock products, which are then supplied to different jewellery stores, it is good to create a product database. Add technology and raw materials (i.e. precious stones and metals) and determine how much of them you need for a complete product.
1. What is best to write down and set as “product” in Prodio:
When you have a project and make-to-order products, create a Product template which can be customised at each stage. Add technology to a product – the work will automatically be divided into suitable machines/operations. You will be able to change the technology when planning a manufacturing order. Remember, you can duplicate it to use later while preparing another order.
2. Production plan – what can you set as machines/operations?
Add all manual operations you use on your production floor. You can also set as Machines/Operations your workers - each of them will have a list of tasks such as project preparation, forming, polishing, etc.
3. Production schedule – tips regarding displaying and planning
Make sure you show only important information needed to complete manufacturing tasks. Customise your production schedule in Settings (i.e. show or hide products’ images). Use operation predecessors to know which tasks are ready to continue work.
4. Additional boxes worth adding for your branch:
Wide variety depending on what you do 🙂 Additional product fields, such as customization and type of packaging Type of meta/stones/finishing For orders: Delivery method Comments
